The Northern Circuit route stands out as one of Kilimanjaro’s premier routes, offering unparalleled scenery with nearly 360-degree views, including the rarely visited northern slopes. This longest route allows ample acclimatization time, enhancing summit success rates and making it highly recommended.
Approaching from the west, the journey begins with a drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate, followed by two days trekking through rainforests to Shira Ridge. The route then traverses the Shira Plateau before heading north, circling clockwise from Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp to School Hut, culminating in the summit ascent from the east.
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro Wonders Hotel for briefing, gear check, and equipment rental.
Take on a 3-hour drive from Moshi to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. Trek through lush rainforests, encountering muddy and slippery trails. Enjoy the diverse flora and fauna while ascending to Mti Mkubwa Camp.
After a restful night, ascend from the rainforest to Shira Plateau, witnessing expansive views along the way. Leave the forest behind as the trail climbs steadily, offering wide vistas upon reaching the rim of the Shira Plateau.

Ascend eastward from Shira Plateau, passing the Kibo peak junction en route to Lava Tower, known as the “Shark’s Tooth.” Descend to Moir Camp for overnight rest, crucial for acclimatization.
Go on a moderately steep climb out of Moir Valley, followed by inclines and declines around Kibo’s northern slopes to Buffalo Camp. Enjoy breathtaking views stretching to the Kenyan/Tanzanian border.
Climb Buffalo Ridge and traverse around the northern slopes, arriving at Rongai Third Cave by mid-afternoon. Shorter climb today aids acclimatization.
Ascend steadily over the Saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi Peak to School Hut. Prepare for an early dinner as the summit attempt begins just before midnight.
Commence the summit attempt in the early hours, navigating between glaciers to Stella Point, then onward to Uhuru Peak. Descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
Descend to Mweka Park Gate to receive summit certificates. Trek through wet and muddy terrain before a vehicle transfer to Moshi. Celebrate the achievement with a hot shower, dinner, and festivities.
